OPTUS supporting those experiencing financial hardship
If you’re facing hardship, OPTUS will do their best to help. Until 30 April 2020, you can ask OPTUS to suspend your postpaid mobile services for up to 90 days to help you, and they will waive late payment fees until this date too. Device repayments and extras will continue to be charged.

$130 billion 'JobKeeper' Wage Subsidies Announced
Affected employers will be able to claim a fortnightly payment of $1,500 per eligible employee from 30 March 2020.

SME Guarantee
Businesses with a turnover of up to $50 million will be eligible for loans that will assist in meeting immediate cash flow needs, by further enhancing lenders’ willingness and ability to provide credit.

Backing Business Investment (BBI) / Accelerated depreciation deduction arrangements
Through until 30 June 2021, businesses with a turnover of less than $500 million will be able to deduct 50% of the costs of an eligible asset on installation, with existing deprecation rules applying to the balance of the asset’s cost.

Increased instant asset write-off
The Government has lifted the individual asset write off threshold to $150,000 (normally $30,000) for assts that are either installed or ready for first use by 30 June 2020.

Relief for commercial tenants
The Government has announced a mandatory code of conduct for commercial tenancies to support small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) affected by the coronavirus.

Power bill relief
$500 rebate on electricity bills for all Queensland small and medium sized businesses that consume less than 100,000 kilowatt hours. This will automatically be applied to electricity bills.

Temporary relief for financially distressed businesses
The Government is temporarily increasing the threshold at which creditors can issue a statutory demand on a company and the time companies have to respond. The package also includes temporary relief for directors from any personal liability for trading while insolvent and providing temporary flexibility of the Corporations Act 2001 to provide temporary and targeted relief for companies from provision of the Act to deal with unforseen events that arise.

Assistance to help pay the wages of apprentices and/or trainees
Eligible employers can apply for a wage subsidy of 50% of the apprentice’s or trainee’s wage paid during 1 January 2020 to 30 September 2020 (maximum of $21,000 per eligible apprentice or trainee).

Agriculture, Food & Fishing Exporters

Commercial fishing industry assistance
The Queensland Government is funding a $3.66 million commercial fishing industry assistance package, including: Tropical rock lobster and coral trout quota fees waived for the first six months of 2020 Fishing boat licence fee waivers for those affected by COVID-19, such as mud crab Expanding the tropical rock lobster fishery area for three months. This will reduce operating costs for quota holders and allow fishers to sell product into other markets while maintaining crew and jobs in the short term

MDRF grants of up to $50,000 are available to support activities including, but not limited to: market evaluation studies market visits training new processing equipment such as refrigeration or vacuum packaging machines boat modifications necessary to meet new market requirements.

The Queensland Tourism Business Financial Counselling Service will provide free financial counselling support to help tourism operators resize or change their business model, and will offer a rebate for businesses needing additional expert advice.

Free COVID-19 Business Recovery Planning Tool
The QTIC and the Australian Tourism Industry Council (ATIC) have launched an online tool to help businesses develop their own COVID-19 Business Recovery Plan. The new module is free to access for all QLD tourism businesses and can be accessed via the Quality Tourism Australia accreditation portal.

Council licensing fees refunded
For food businesses that have been impacted by COVID-19, Moreton Bay Regional Council will refund licensing fees.

Liquor licence fees waived
From 1 February to 31 July 2020, fees will be waived for applications to change trading hours and temporarily or permanently change a licensed area.

Tourism lease rent payment deferral
For businesses that hold a leaser or licence for tourism purposes and receive rental invoices quarterly, you can apply for a land rent deferral. If approved, rental invoices due between 1 February 2020 and 31 July 2020 will instead be payable by 1 January 2021 and no penalty interest will accrue on overdue balances for this period. If you have already paid your rent for the first quarter of 2020, you will receive a refund.

Commercial activity agreements and permits daily fees waived
Tourism operators in Queensland that conduct business in a national park, conservation park, recreation area or state forest will have their commercial activities agreement or permit daily site fees waived for activities conducted between 1 February 2020 and 31 July 2020.
